Osmotex deliever a key enabling technology for the emerging microfluidics industry. Representing the industrialization of chemical and biological analysis and synthesis, while facilitating technologies such as portable fuel cells in the bargain, microfluidics can have an impact as great as that of microelectronics and computer technology. Not least are the fields of lifesciences, healthcare, pharmaceutics / drug discovery starting to become affected.

Indicators such as the amount of university and corporate research, number of patents, scientific publications and conferences speaks of an important technology shift in the making. While the biggest commercial success to date is inkjet printers, lab-on-chip systems has started to appear, so far mostly for laboratory applications.

Osmotex is owned by a group of Swiss and Norwegian investors.

Business Communication Company (BCC) predicts a growth of the microfluidics marked from USD 2.9 bn in 2005 to USD 6.3 bn in 2011, an annual growth rate of 14.1%. (Report SMC036C Microfluidics technology). The same company name microfluidics as "one of ten technologies to change the world".
